Flower on Silk
About this work
Silk and natural dye. The flower motif was applied using a contact method, letting pigment pool and settle around the form rather than flooding it. Silk holds dye differently from cotton or wool: it concentrates color at the edges and softens toward the center, giving the bloom a luminous, watercolor quality.
Part of the natural dye experiments series from Art 185LJ at UC Santa Barbara, 2023.
