Chronicles of Her: A Mosaic of Womanhood
About this work
"Chronicles of Her: A Mosaic of Womanhood" (2024) combines painting and collage to explore the reproductive responsibilities placed on women. Multilingual text, expressive faces, and fragments of birth control packaging share a brightly colored surface, bringing public ideas of womanhood into contact with private bodily experience.
The word "woman" appears in multiple languages, with letters cut from birth control packaging and deliberately turned upside down. What first reads as a celebration of womanhood across cultures becomes more complicated when the source material comes into focus. The packaging introduces questions about bodily autonomy, the costs of reproductive care, and whose experiences receive attention.
The work was exhibited alongside "Harmonic Hormones: The Art of Balance," a companion drawing focused on changing expressions and emotional experience. The exhibition photographs show the two works together and the visitors encountering them.
